Work-hours calculator

This tool subtracts your start time from your end time, then removes any unpaid break. It shows hours and minutes plus decimal hours.

How this calculator works

If the end time is earlier than the start time, TimeGoblin treats it as the next day. A 10:00 PM–6:00 AM shift is eight hours before breaks.

Decimal hours

Thirty minutes is 0.50 hours, fifteen minutes is 0.25, and forty-five minutes is 0.75. The result is shown to two decimal places.

Common questions

Are unpaid breaks subtracted?

Yes. Enter the total unpaid break in minutes.

Does it calculate overtime?

No. Overtime thresholds and rounding rules vary by jurisdiction and employer.

Can it handle split shifts?

Calculate each segment separately, then add the results. This version handles one continuous shift at a time.
